After the animated series Devil May Cry officially launched on Netflix on April 3rd, the number of players engaging with the eponymous game titles on Steam has surged.
According to data from SteamDB, particularly for Devil May Cry 5, the latest game in the series, it recorded a peak of 14,976 concurrent players, the highest since its release in 2019.

The animated series Devil May Cry quickly climbed to the top of the most-watched content on Netflix in its first week of streaming. The show introduces a completely new storyline, distinct from the original game series, featuring Dante, the main character, as he battles to thwart the sinister plans of the enigmatic “The White Rabbit” and liberate a cursed realm from its underground fate.
The appeal of the animated series not only enhances the Devil May Cry brand but also inspires a wave of returning (or new) players to explore this legendary game franchise. Notably, Netflix has also confirmed that a second season is in the works.

Not only Devil May Cry 5, but other versions have also witnessed a remarkable increase in player counts. Devil May Cry: HD Collection (which remasters the first three installments) reached a peak of 7,622 concurrent players, the highest for this compilation on Steam to date. Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition currently has 1,419 players in the last 24 hours, while the controversial reboot DmC: Devil May Cry (2013) recorded 742 players, a number significantly higher than usual. Besides the draw from the series, promotional campaigns and discounts on Steam have also contributed to the growing player base.

Despite the animated series Devil May Cry having caused some controversy among fans regarding its style and content, it’s undeniable that it has breathed new life into this long-standing franchise. The successful integration of mainstream media with the gaming platform has opened new avenues for Capcom – the developer of the series – as they consider launching a new installment in the near future.
