The Struggles of T1 and Gumayusi
The recent defeat of T1 against Gen.G marked a disappointing close to the seventh week of the competitive season. While it may not significantly impact their position on the leaderboard and shouldn’t be labeled as a “disaster” for T1, a victory would have served as a substantial morale boost for Faker and the team ahead of their battle against HLE. However, the truly disappointing aspect is that this loss is the first time T1 has been defeated by a moment of Gumayusi showing significant promise during this match.

Notably, during the first match, Gumayusi’s excellent positioning helped T1 maintain consistent combat engagement. Throughout both games, from the early stages, he was able to contest the experienced opponent, Ruler. Had it not been for some outstanding plays by Canyon or the strategic positioning of Chovy – Kiin, along with Faker’s accuracy, T1 might not have lost to Gen.G in the “Super Classic” of LCK.

One spectator remarked cheerfully: “It seems Gumayusi will never receive a Player of the Match (POM) award. Because whenever he plays well, his teammates tend to ‘choke’ in crucial moments.” Meanwhile, another spectator expressed disappointment for the young player born in 2002: “It’s truly unfortunate for Gumayusi as he contributed significantly in both matches and was the sole link with Keria. The difference in skill between the Mid and ADC roles is just too large.”

Yet T1 and Gumayusi Still Give Fans Hope
The performance against Gen.G may not have been T1’s best, but it did show fans that this team has the potential to compete fiercely against any strong opponent. The journey towards MSI 2025 and the remaining titles of this year is not closed off for T1.
Gumayusi himself has faced a challenging season, yet he continues to perform well. His performances in the 2022 World Championship could potentially pave the way for T1 to advance further this year, provided the surrounding elements align well with his skills and style of play.
