Nearly a Decade Since Bloodborne’s Launch on PlayStation 4
It has been almost ten years since Bloodborne was first released on PlayStation 4. Throughout this time, the demand for a remaster or remake of this cult classic has echoed tirelessly within the gaming community.
However, despite the persistent calls from fans, only fleeting news, tweets with likes, and hopeful rumors circulate during events like the PlayStation Showcase. Currently, it seems that various games must contend with the reality that Bloodborne Remastered will likely never happen – and the reason is not solely that Sony or developer FromSoftware are too busy.

FromSoftware and Sony Japan Studio’s Current Focus
Although Bloodborne is a collaboration between FromSoftware and Sony Japan Studio, Sony’s current policies indicate that these studios are no longer prioritizing the revival of past franchises.
Unlike The Last of Us or Demon’s Souls, which Sony has actively remade to revitalize their strategic marketing, Bloodborne does not carry significant commercial value in the current market landscape. At least not at this moment. This situation does not solely stem from business decisions but also from technical challenges. Numerous industry sources have reported that the original assets of Bloodborne may have been lost or are incompatible with current technology. Silent Hill 2 serves as a notable example where lost data has made remastering almost impossible. Although FromSoftware still retains some internal resources, retrieving the entire production process and optimizing it for a new platform is not something a studio focused on future projects, like FromSoftware, can easily achieve.

In recent years, FromSoftware has continuously expanded its horizons into various new genres. Following the monumental success of Elden Ring, several upcoming projects have been announced, such as Shadow of the Erdtree and The Duskbloods. The Japanese studio is now positioning itself as a global developer, no longer confined to a singular identity. Even CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki has previously shared that FromSoftware is working on multiple projects across different genres. With such a busy development schedule and a broad vision, revisiting a remaster would not significantly impact its creative output, making it a difficult endeavor.

It is impossible to underestimate the emotional attachment the gaming community has to Bloodborne. With its unique Gothic art style and high-octane combat system, this game undoubtedly holds a special place in the history of modern gaming. However, the gaming industry today does not operate solely based on sentiment. Decisions about investment and development stem from profit margins, potential IP growth, and overarching product strategy. Regrettably, Bloodborne Remastered – despite being highly anticipated by millions – does not appear to be on the horizon.
