Despite the manga’s conclusion generating significant controversy, Gojo Satoru remains one of the most beloved characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, even more so than the main character Yuji. Now, this young man is once again taking the spotlight with the upcoming release of the film Hidden Inventory/Premature Death, set to debut in July.
Recently, creator Gege Akutami shared new images revealing Gojo’s past, providing a deeper glimpse than what will be shown in the film.

A recent post on X by @Go_jover shared new illustrative images from Gege Akutami depicting Gojo’s childhood. The new sketches show a teenage Gojo with shorter hair, alongside Naoya Zenin in an unnamed dark room, as described in the accompanying text outlining the setting at the Gojo family home.
The sketches reveal that Gojo made a definitive choice to leave the Gojo family when he entered Jujutsu High School. The Gojo family had intended for him to attend Jujutsu High, but with the condition that he must take on the role of family head first to avoid any misunderstandings with Gojo and his family, which he agreed to.
Jujutsu Kaisen to explore Gojo further before the final arc

Although he is one of the most intriguing characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, little information is available about Gojo Satoru’s past and his childhood. Gojo’s past in Jujutsu Kaisen is primarily focused on events during the Hidden Inventory Arc, giving fans only a brief glimpse of him when he was still a student through the perspective of Toji Fushiguro. Therefore, it is quite exciting to learn more about Gojo’s life before he entered Jujutsu High.
In traditional Japanese culture, a coming-of-age ceremony known as genpuku typically occurs between the ages of 12 and 17. Since Gojo was 16 during the Hidden Inventory Arc, when he was a second-year student, this ceremony may have taken place when he was 15 or earlier. His participation in this ceremony adds depth to his emotional expressions, revealing feelings of sadness and frustration on Gojo’s face in the new sketches. Additionally, with the perspective of being the head of the family, it’s compelling to see his excitement as he enters Jujutsu High and distances himself from the responsibilities of the Gojo family and the burdens of family expectations.

Akutami’s latest sketches also give fans a brief look at the unique bond between Gojo and his significant family members, highlighting his role amidst the powerful Gojo clan, which is one of the most compelling aspects of Jujutsu Kaisen, even though it hasn’t been explored in great detail as it should be. With the delicate balance of power between the three main families and Jujutsu High, the decision for him to take on the role of family head likely serves as a significant plot point and shows how Gojo will still be a prominent figure even when he enters Jujutsu High.
This development also makes sense considering Gojo’s overwhelming strength, as he has changed the balance of power within the world since he arrived. Generally, it’s quite unfortunate that this aspect of Gojo’s story does not appear in the series. However, hopefully, the Jujutsu Kaisen anime can find a way to incorporate this before the series concludes, especially considering the extensive revelations about Gojo’s past that Jujutsu Kaisen has unveiled so far through the upcoming Hidden Inventory film.
