The MonsterVerse is set to return to the big screen with the next installment featuring Godzilla and Kong, following their previous collaboration to confront the Skar King. Recently, Warner Bros. confirmed that the third film for these two iconic monsters will be titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, currently in production and scheduled for release in 2027.
Just from the title alone, fans have already speculated extensively about the plot details of this upcoming blockbuster. Among these speculations, the identity of the main antagonist has garnered a lot of attention, especially since the Skar King has been evaluated as a “lesser threat.” Supernova, referring to a stellar explosion, could potentially relate to monstrous entities originating from outer space, similar to Ghidorah’s introduction in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Notably, the main highlight of the film is expected to be SpaceGodzilla – “Godzilla’s offspring.”
The Title Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Spoils the Identity of SpaceGodzilla

“Supernova” is a term used to describe a powerful and luminous stellar explosion, marking the end of a star’s life cycle. We won’t delve deeply into the cosmological phenomena that the term refers to; instead, we need to grasp one critical piece of information: the entity known as Supernova could potentially create a connection to SpaceGodzilla, linking it to the third installment of Godzilla x Kong.
In the classic work Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla from the Heisei Era, the black hole is the birthplace of SpaceGodzilla before it traverses across the universe in search of its origins on Earth. Thus, the MonsterVerse has the opportunity to reinterpret the origins of SpaceGodzilla. However, at present, with the limited information available, SpaceGodzilla seems to be the Kaiju most directly connected to Supernova.
The Origin and Powers of SpaceGodzilla

Essentially, SpaceGodzilla can be seen as a star version of Godzilla, created when some of Godzilla’s cells accidentally drift into space and are exposed to a black hole. There are two interpretations for this “origin.” Firstly, these cells could be gathered in space after Biollante was defeated in Godzilla vs. Biollante. Secondly, these cells might have attached themselves to Mothra’s larval form in Godzilla vs. Mothra.
When Godzilla’s cells enter the black hole, they escape from a “black hole,” interacting with cosmic elements, resulting in the creation of the colossal SpaceGodzilla. To visualize, this creature resembles a weaker version of Godzilla, featuring a jaw that can absorb energy. Its most distinctive feature is its two crystalline structures protruding from its shoulders, serving as energy conduits.
In terms of strength, SpaceGodzilla is a formidable opponent, as it can emit various types of energy blasts that manipulate energy sourced from the cosmic elements it creates or absorbs from its surroundings. Among its most notable abilities is the Corona Beam – a type of orange energy beam that can penetrate through barriers to destroy its targets.
Additionally, SpaceGodzilla possesses numerous psychic abilities, such as telekinesis, which allows it to manipulate objects from a distance, creating an energy field to trap its foes. In some versions, SpaceGodzilla often shifts between two states: a flight mode, used for long-distance travel in space; and a battle mode, activated whenever it appears on Earth. SpaceGodzilla is one of the strongest adversaries Godzilla has ever faced, and the King of Monsters must enlist considerable assistance to have any chance against it.
The MonsterVerse Has Teased the Existence of SpaceGodzilla

There have been numerous theories and rumors suggesting that SpaceGodzilla has existed in the MonsterVerse for a long time, primarily through details related to the “star version of Godzilla.” Firstly, in the artbook of Godzilla vs. Kong, there is a concept art (not used in the main release) titled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall: The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale.
This artwork depicts a battle among the Titans, but instead of fighting against each other, the Great Ape and Godzilla’s forces unite against a common enemy from outer space. Notably, this enemy resembles Godzilla but has a significantly larger frame. Warner Bros. may utilize this detail to introduce SpaceGodzilla into the MonsterVerse. Following the ancient battle, this cosmic creature could have taken refuge in the depths of the vast Earth to regain strength, only to emerge as a threat.
In episode 4 of the comic series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a member of the Monarch organization discovers a black crystal emitting energy from deep within the Earth. Combining this detail with SpaceGodzilla’s origin, we can theorize: A potential Godzilla, for reasons yet to be determined, has been a source of energy in the black hole hidden within the vast Earth. Its cells inadvertently created SpaceGodzilla, but no one knows about this hidden secret.
