After more than two years since the first announcement, the adventure game Sword of the Sea is finally set to release on August 19.
The announcement was made during the recent Sony State of Play event, which took place not long ago. This is the third product from Giant Squid, the studio known for creating the award-winning games Abzû and The Pathless, both featuring a distinctive artistic style and an emotional gameplay experience.

In Sword of the Sea, players will take on the role of an Undead guardian drifting through a desolate world, where only sands move like waves while the magic of the sea is slowly awakening.
Players will glide on a magical hoverboard – both a surfboard and a skateboard – across sandy dunes as if riding waves in an infinite ocean. The goal is not only to explore but also to revitalize a world that has perished: to restore the coastline, greenery, and life to this once-thriving land. Giant Squid continues to emphasize their unique gameplay mechanics, including smooth transitions and fluid movements that create a visually stunning and immersive experience.

The latest trailer reveals that players can glide on rails like a skateboarder, seamlessly transitioning from one location to another, whether it be soaring over mountains or performing tricks on the edges of cliffs, reminiscent of a fantasy version of Tony Hawk’s gameplay. Although the specifics of the gameplay mechanics are yet to be confirmed, it is clear that the developers aim to encourage creative play during movement. Along with this, various hidden creatures will appear, adding depth to the explorative segments. Players can expect to experience exhilarating moments while exploring and battling in grandiose arenas.

Sword of the Sea is officially set to launch on August 19 on Steam, Epic Games Store, and PS5. In the meantime, players can experience The Pathless, the previous title from Giant Squid, which is currently available at a 75% discount on Steam – a perfect appetizer for the upcoming artistic adventure.
