Summer Break: A Time for Energy Renewal and New Experiences for Kids

However, the reality is that many parents are anxious about their children facing the risk of “addiction to entertainment and laziness in learning.” This is a concern that is not unfounded, as inappropriate entertainment methods can lead to significant issues. This has prompted many parents to impose strict measures: banning YouTube, limiting Wi-Fi access, and so on.
Common strategies that parents use include: allowing children to watch only 1-2 hours a day, but only after completing their homework; creating a “white list” of safe channels that are appropriate for entertainment; supervising and monitoring: children must watch content with their parents to evaluate its appropriateness; encouraging educational content: promoting science channels, English learning, life skills, etc.
Many YouTube Channels Make Parents “Worry,” Leading to “Bans” on Watching
Recently, a parent shared a list of channels that they believe should be banned: “Is there any household that hasn’t issued a ban on these channels on YouTube for summer break?” This received a lot of feedback from the online community. Among these are familiar streamer names: Mèo Simmy, Sammy Đào, Phong Cần TV, and Vê Vê TV… These are channels that have millions of followers.

For parents, channels like Mèo Simmy, Sammy Đào, and Phong Cần TV primarily focus on gaming content such as Minecraft and Mini World… with very little educational value or skill development. The content often appears to be playful, frequently crossing the line with “offensive” displays and lacking educational merit. Additionally, there have been complaints that:
“This channel should definitely not be allowed for kids to watch. The way they talk is very rude and promotes bad behavior. Why doesn’t YouTube have similar restrictions as TikTok that prevent this kind of content from spreading?”
“There will come a day when all these channels will be banned for kids. Just like banning fake news from trending on social media. Just to let these YouTubers know that they should stop exploiting kids.”
“Wow, it’s a complete mess. All the channels kids watch are terrible. Vê Vê and Sammy’s channel has such horrible content. The shouting is unbearable. Every time I catch my kid watching, it’s only for 5 minutes before they switch channels. My kid loves watching them so much that I just turn off the sound completely.”

Issuing a “ban” is a reaction that reflects a serious concern: parents only wish for their children to focus on learning and cultivating discipline. However, when such measures are taken without clear explanations or discussions, it risks creating negative psychological impacts on children. The summer break should be a golden opportunity for understanding, connecting, and supporting children’s overall development. If strict management methods have been previously applied, sharing effective strategies among parents can create a more positive environment!
