Not Every Newcomer in the Gaming Industry is as Dazzling as It Seems.
Despite the current hype around “bullshots”—images or videos that are meticulously polished to mislead viewers—game developers today no longer hide the actual quality of their products behind extravagant trailers.

An Example is Chrono Odyssey – an Ambitious MMO Game Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024.
With its engaging gameplay, deep Soulslike combat, and stunning landscapes, the trailer for this game has convinced many that it will be the “must-play” MMO of the coming year. However, early players have experienced a beta version that starkly contrasts with their expectations… in a rather disappointing way. The recent gameplay demonstrations of Chrono Odyssey have raised concerns about the game’s actual state, and many believe that this title still needs significant development time.

Even though it utilizes Unreal Engine 5, the quality of the game still feels lacking. Some believe that the game was designed for mobile platforms, considering the interface, lighting, and even the AI of character interactions, which seem to be inadequately adapted for mobile players. Each gameplay session feels frustrating, particularly in its current beta state. Players have reported various issues: poor optimization, clunky transitions, and an overall “inferior” feeling within the gameplay. Many cannot pinpoint exactly what makes the experience so jarring—they only know that it feels off…

It is worth noting that Chrono Odyssey is the flagship product of Chrono Studio, a subsidiary of Npixel—a South Korean development company known for the game Gran Saga. Although a significant portion of Chrono Odyssey’s promotional materials aims to create a unique identity, this studio is still relatively new and different from the typical “pay-to-win” models that have dominated the MMO market, indicating a desire to create a more player-focused experience.
