Dragon Ball Daima draws inspiration from the 40th anniversary of the original Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. It debuted in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine published by Shueisha. Unfortunately, the author passed away before the anime was released, but fans can still enjoy a completely new story and characters featured in Daima.
Dragon Ball Daima honors Akira Toriyama through the series of animated films that have been released up to now, and it is clear that the author has contributed significantly to this new story.
The creator has also introduced a new character design for the Demon Realm, including the Majin Kuu and Duu characters. To celebrate the upcoming release of this exciting addition, Shueisha has unveiled the initial character designs by Akira Toriyama at the recent Jump Festa 2025 event.

Dragon Ball reveals Toriyama’s initial character design for Kuu and Duu
Dragon Ball Daima officially introduces the second incarnation of Majin Buu, known as Majin Duu. Previously, the new anime had explored the origin of Majin Buu, explaining that a sorcerer named Marba was responsible for creating Buu, rather than Babidi.
These changes further develop the origin of Majin Buu as the deity Arinsu collaborates with Marba to create a new Majin entity, but this time, they are looking for ways to control this new monster to avoid the disasters that occurred with Buu.
The initial experiment utilized the essence of Majin Buu, resulting in the creation of distinct monsters from the Demon Realm. The final material was a seed of Saibamen, which eventually led to the creation of Majin Kuu. Unfortunately for Arinsu, Kuu turned out to be a far less desirable creation than what she had hoped for.

This situation led to the creation of a different Majin by utilizing the final essence of Buu and Majin Duu, which has been revealed in the latest episode of the anime. Both characters share similarities in appearance with Buu and Saibamen.
It is evident that looking at Akira Toriyama’s designs for Kuu and Duu, the Dragon Ball Daima anime team has successfully reimagined them in a remarkable way.
