(Warning: This article contains spoilers about the movie)
According to subjective reviews, the film is not overly outstanding as many have suggested, but it does evoke significant emotions during the viewing experience, especially in its first part. After careful analysis, I decided to write this “sung review” to summarize the characters briefly, as well as to provide readers with a deeper insight into the film.
First and foremost, let’s focus on the characters in the movie, which can be summed up in two words: “is” and “take”!
The Hodgson family seems to be haunted by a mischievous spirit, but the four children in the family stand out. Who would dare to disturb their peaceful home, saying: “Hey yo, isn’t there a ghost that can come here to chat with the kids?!” However, when the ghost appears, they scream in fear. A piece of advice for the parents: it’s best to educate the children about “ghosts might be real,” or quickly implement family safety plans!
But I don’t understand why the family is haunted by a ghost and still manages to sleep peacefully. I think they must have installed a strong security system; otherwise, how could they sleep soundly? Or perhaps they are just too used to the eerie atmosphere.
Next, let’s discuss the character structure, which is undoubtedly cute, the film’s most endearing part. Oh, those ghosts! If they claim that their home is theirs, they must be a bit stubborn, always wanting to keep their space, even if it gets crowded. When they do something, it certainly causes a stir.
Then, there’s Ed (or Ed), who should always sit silently and let his wife take charge! He consistently opens portals to haunted places, brightening the atmosphere with his cheerful demeanor, while also raising questions about the paintings on the walls, their origin, and the serene yet somehow unsettling environment they create… When the ghost makes its appearance, it’s as if he’s just a mere spectator, waiting for the spooks to unfold.
He even advises the children, “You must face the inner demons!” “Don’t let the spirits catch you!” blah blah… but when the ghost shows up, they panic. A piece of advice: if you’re home alone and hear kitchen noises, RUN IMMEDIATELY, THERE’S A GHOST IN THE HOUSE! Call for help at once! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS IN THE KITCHEN BECAUSE YOU MIGHT END UP IN TROUBLE!
Let’s not forget to mention the rather infamous character, the haunted doll Valak, which is only brought into the picture because of her overly dramatic name. The movie is filled with frightening moments, even showcasing a girl who could easily become a horror icon yet is still trying to maintain her innocence. It’s a bit puzzling how she manages to escape such a terrifying role…
A crucial piece of advice for those who might be experiencing fears: always be cautious about revealing personal information that could be misused!
However, the film is not without its flaws when compared to the character Bill Wilkins, who is far more haunting than any ghost in the film, as he died and is now trapped in a limbo. It’s a bit confusing how the character interacts with the spirit Valak and how he is manipulated by her to keep him in a state of despair.
Ah, I almost forgot to mention the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (Elvis Presley) – the film’s soundtrack, which adds a layer of emotional depth that could rival any romantic film.
