If you are a die-hard fan of Harry Potter, you certainly know that the magical Hogwarts School is divided into four houses where students live and study together. These houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
With the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we will also be introduced to a new magical school in the United States, which is similarly divided into four houses. Let’s explore these four houses in the new film set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Thunderbird
The Thunderbird was named by Chadwick Boot, inspired by a mythical bird known for its ability to create whirlwinds when it flies. This house represents the personalities of those who are adventurous and exploratory.
Students in the Thunderbird house tend to be adventurous, have a strong sense of individuality, and are quite similar to Gryffindor in the Harry Potter series.
Pukwudgie
Pukwudgie is a creature known for its large ears and often appears in the U.S. wizarding community, characterized by its playful nature and self-confidence. However, this creature is not particularly friendly to anyone daring to approach it.
The Pukwudgie house was founded by James Steward, one of the prominent figures behind this establishment. He believed that the Pukwudgie was a suitable creature to represent the house due to its unique traits. Students in this house are often very intelligent and possess a high degree of independence, much like Ravenclaw in Harry Potter.
Wampus
The Wampus is introduced in Rowling’s lore, depicted as a creature resembling a cat but is often compared to a panther due to its speed and strength. It is said that it is nearly impossible to defeat a Wampus due to its agility.
The Wampus was chosen as the symbol for this house by William Boot, another founding figure. The characteristics of students in this house are a blend between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
Horned Serpent
One cannot help but notice that the Horned Serpent house draws inspiration similar to Slytherin in Harry Potter. Its emblem is also a depiction of a serpent.
Students in this house are often known for their intelligence, cunning, and being quite resourceful. They are generally not much different from those in Slytherin, where Voldemort once sought to master the dark arts.
The release date for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for November 18, 2016, and it promises to expand the magical universe further.
