Godzilla, known as the “King of Monsters,” is one of the most iconic figures in the entertainment industry and has become an essential cultural staple in Japan. In 2016, Toho, the parent company of Godzilla, released a reboot version of this legendary film titled “Godzilla: Resurgence” (or “Shin Godzilla” in its original Japanese title).
Unlike previous versions from Hollywood, Toho’s rendition returned to the core elements of this monster, depicting it as a massive, terrifying creature that is more formidable than ever. Notably, this version marks a significant shift as Toho opted not to use actors in a rubber suit for the monster. Instead, the film utilized advanced computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create a completely new Godzilla.
Despite lacking the grand spectacle characteristic of the 2014 Hollywood version, Toho’s 2016 film still impressively delivers high-quality CGI images, meticulously crafted to ensure that Godzilla appears both realistic and fearsome.
“Godzilla: Resurgence” was released in Japan on July 29, 2016, and quickly climbed to the top of the box office charts, dominating ticket sales for two consecutive weeks. The film received positive reviews from local media and generated significant revenue for the production company, surpassing the performance of previous films in the franchise.
