The summer blockbuster season of 2016 has passed with numerous notable films that many may find hard to overlook. Among the superhero films, titles like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, released at the end of March and early April, marked a spectacular opening for the summer movie season. Following this was Captain America: Civil War, along with the highly anticipated Suicide Squad.
All three of these superhero films achieved significant box office success and set a strong precedent for the upcoming films from both Marvel and DC. Additionally, Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse, despite not making a strong impression on audiences, is still considered a blockbuster that cannot be overlooked this summer.
Among the animated films of the summer 2016, Finding Dory stands out, being the sequel to the blockbuster Finding Nemo released in 2003. The film brought in a staggering $136 million for Disney within just three days of its release.
Although Warcraft did not achieve significant box office success in North America, it still earned hundreds of millions of dollars from the Chinese market and could be considered a success nonetheless. Despite the film not meeting expectations, fans of the game franchise still regard Warcraft as a blockbuster.
Moreover, the return of several blockbuster titles from previous years, such as Jason Bourne, Now You See Me 2, and Independence Day 2, also draws significant attention this summer.
