Decision to Drop Out of School by a 12-Year-Old Gamer
Tarou, a 12-year-old gamer from Japan, has recently made the bold decision to drop out of school to pursue a professional career in esports, specifically in Fortnite. This decision has received the approval of the boy’s parents after a year of careful consideration.

From an outsider’s perspective, it may seem like a rash decision for a young gamer who has yet to finish school. However, in reality, Tarou is considered a “prodigy in esports,” having begun playing Fortnite at a very young age. By the age of 10, he had already reached the Top 1 ranking on the Asian leaderboard and ranked 23rd globally. Not only is he a talented gamer, but Tarou also has a YouTube channel with 180,000 subscribers.

The reason for Tarou’s decision to drop out is due to the extensive study time required that only allows him to play games for about 4 hours a day, which isn’t sufficient to maintain his competitive edge in the international esports arena. To become a professional esports athlete, Tarou needs to practice between 7 to 10 hours daily, just like other professional esports players.

Currently, he has signed a contract with the professional team EDGE but still has a long way to go before he can participate in major tournaments.
Debate Over the Decision of Young Gamers
Tarou’s story is not an isolated case. In 2020, a 9-year-old Brazilian gamer named Zenon also considered Fortnite his main career. However, Zenon faced a four-year ban, which severely impacted his professional gaming career.

While there are many cases of young gamers pursuing their dreams, it is clear that deciding to drop out of school to chase a career in professional esports is a risky choice. If successful, these gamers can achieve fame and earn substantial income. However, if they fail, they may face numerous challenges due to a lack of educational qualifications. For Tarou, despite building a solid foundation as a YouTuber, turning professional remains a significant challenge.
