In recent years, several games inspired by Pokémon have gained significant success, with Palworld standing out among them.
This game captures the attention of the gaming community with its innovative gameplay elements that have never appeared before in Pokémon-style games. Another title that is developing in a similar direction is called Monsterpatch.

The appeal of Monsterpatch is undeniable, as it successfully surpassed its initial Kickstarter goal just a day after launching the funding campaign. Monsterpatch, a game developed by an independent studio, quickly exceeded its initial funding goal of $15,000, raising $74,000 by the time of this writing. It promises to deliver an engaging RPG experience where players take on the role of a wizard, capturing and nurturing mystical creatures while also learning spells, exploring the vast world, and customizing their own unique character. The gameplay combines elements of monster battling with farming mechanics that evoke memories akin to those found in Stardew Valley.
Launched on Kickstarter on March 25, 2025, Monsterpatch only took 16 minutes to exceed its initial funding threshold, showcasing the strong interest in the game. According to the description on Kickstarter, players will step into the shoes of a wizard, capturing and caring for magical creatures while simultaneously learning spells, exploring aerial landscapes, and customizing their own character. The game combines RPG elements with monster battles alongside farming mechanics similar to those in Stardew Valley. Additionally, Monsterpatch will feature an extensive open-world system, bringing a management style reminiscent of the Animal Crossing franchise.

Monsterpatch will utilize pixel art graphics viewed from a top-down perspective, reminiscent of earlier Pokémon games. Players will have unique interfaces to engage in battles, farming, interacting with NPCs, and many other activities. The creatures within the game, referred to as MoNs, will be categorized into nine different Houses, drawing inspiration from Pokémon’s type system. Each House will govern a region in the aerial landscape and will be overseen by a Grand Wizard, requiring players to strategize in battles against monstrous foes.

Although Monsterpatch offers a unique blend of monster capturing and life simulation, some players are concerned that the gameplay may closely resemble Pokémon, raising potential legal issues with Nintendo. Previously, Palworld also faced scrutiny regarding similarities to Pokémon before being cleared for development. Currently, the community is hopeful that Monsterpatch can release successfully without encountering legal challenges or developmental setbacks.
