In 2015, the film Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. This year, as he takes on the directing role for Fast 8, some commentators believe that F. Gary Gray will not only continue the success of its predecessor, Fast 7, but could also lead this installment to even greater heights, perhaps even claiming an Oscar.
In a recent interview, actor Vin Diesel shared his thoughts regarding the expectations surrounding Fast 8 and how it will offer a unique experience for audiences. Speaking with ET Online, Diesel mentioned that this installment will feature a darker tone, potentially positioning it for awards consideration under Gray’s direction:
“I think he is doing something really special with this film. It feels like, ‘Oh, really? Okay. Now I am going to deliver the most spectacular blockbuster on the planet. I will be aiming for the Oscars for you guys.’ So, let’s just wait until you see what he can accomplish!”
Diesel’s comments reflect a confidence in how Fast 8 will stand out compared to previous installments, although specifics on how Gray will innovate the series remain unclear. This uncertainty does, however, add to the excitement among fans, as they ponder how F. Gary Gray might reshape the franchise in a way that inspires Diesel’s enthusiasm.
