Godzilla, the iconic monster, has been a staple in the film industry for over 60 years, and it continues to be a significant figure in the kaiju genre. In 2014, after a lengthy hiatus, Godzilla made a comeback in a film directed by Gareth Edwards, with a sequel planned for release in 2019.
Not to be outdone by the U.S., Japan has also sought to cement its place in the global spotlight with the release of “Godzilla: Resurgence” last year, which has disrupted several box office records in Japan.
Continuing the Godzilla franchise, the latest news indicates that an animated film centered around this legendary monster is set to be produced. This project will be developed by Polygon Studios, the studio known for its visual design work on “Transformers: Prime.”
The screenplay will be penned by Gen Urobuchi, with direction by Kobun Shizuno. Details regarding the plot and main storyline are still under wraps; however, two key concept images have been released, showcasing a team of scientists who appear to be exploring a new territory, which is also the habitat of the colossal Godzilla.
Additionally, the official website promoting the animated film project has also been launched, although the official title of the film has yet to be announced.
This film project is inspired by two previous animated series from the U.S., specifically the “Godzilla” series from the 1970s by Hanna-Barbera, and another animated version featuring Godzilla alongside other kaiju, which were stylized into a more chibi and cute aesthetic, known as “Godzilla Island.”
Currently, interest in the Godzilla animated film project is growing significantly among fans around the world.
