One of the most debated topics among fans of Dragon Ball is whether Dragon Ball GT is part of the official storyline or not. The majority of fans respond with a definitive no, based on the statements and actions of Akira Toriyama. However, the scriptwriters and designers involved in creating this series have stated otherwise.
Akira Toriyama himself has dismissed this notion. He has previously mentioned in an extensive interview that Dragon Ball GT is not canonical and, unlike Dragon Ball Super, it was an attempt by Toei Animation to capitalize on the popularity of GT.
The events in Dragon Ball GT take place approximately 10 years after the battle with Majin Buu. Goku and the entire Z Warrior team participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament (Budokai Tenkaichi) and meet Uub.
The context of Dragon Ball GT unfolds right after the story, featuring Goku, his granddaughter Pan, and Trunks as the main characters of the series.
New Design Changes
The official Dragon Ball website has made significant contributions since Akira Toriyama’s passing. The project, titled “Toriyama Archive,” showcases rare images that have never been published or are hard to find, highlighting works of the Japanese mangaka.

Here, we naturally see an illustration of Videl’s character design from Dragon Ball GT.
This design of Videl was created for the Dragon Ball GT anime. At that time, she was married to Gohan and the mother of their daughter, Pan, who had grown into a young girl. The official Dragon Ball website noted: “Videl appears quite relaxed in this illustration, but her cheerful expression and sporty demeanor still convey her vibrant personality as if she just came back to life.“

Gohan’s portrayal in this outfit, until this point, has been a unique creative expression of Dragon Ball GT. Toriyama’s personal involvement in this illustration from Shueisha has brought many changes to the narrative of the series.
