The History of Zoro and the Shimotsuki Clan in One Piece
In the latest episode, both the Japanese voice actor Kazuya Nakai and the English voice actor Christopher Sabat lend their voices to the character Zoro. Additionally, the episode features a post-credit scene where Ryuma hands over his sword Shusui to Zoro at Thriller Bark.
It’s important to note that the one-shot “The Monsters” was released before the official publication of the One Piece manga. Therefore, the scene at Thriller Bark does not appear in the manga.
If you think that Shimotsuki Ryuma and Zoro have similar appearances, you’re not alone in that observation. Zoro hails from Shimotsuki Village, a small village located in East Blue. The village is named after Shimotsuki Kozaburo, a member of the Shimotsuki family who came from Wano Country.
Zoro’s father, Roronoa Arashi, is the son of Shimotsuki Furiko and Roronoa Pinzoro. Furiko is a direct descendant of Ryuma, making him Zoro’s ancestor. The Shimotsuki family is one of the most renowned and powerful clans in Wano before Kaido and Orochi took control of the country.
At the time of his death, Shimotsuki Yasui was serving as the lord of Hakumai. To avoid oppression, he had to hide in the Ebisu region and ultimately died at the hands of Orochi, all to assist the people during the Great Sumo Wrestling and the execution of Oden.
