Another Final Fantasy Bomb, War Of The Visions, to Be Shut Down
Square Enix has recently announced that the server for War Of The Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a tactical role-playing game on mobile that has garnered significant attention in the gaming community, will be officially closing on May 29th. This marks the end of a five-year journey.

This is a major shock to many fans, especially since this version was initially seen as a perfect continuation of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE), which had already entered the End of Service (EOS) phase before this announcement.

Launched for the first time in early 2019 in Japan and globally on March 25, 2020, War Of The Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius has created a captivating storyline surrounding the land of Ardra, where many nations vie for control. The game not only attracted mobile gamers with familiar characters from the Final Fantasy series but also made a strong impression due to its intricate combat system and rich narrative. However, over time, this game also could not escape the “curse” of its predecessors – a fate that many previous iterations of the Final Fantasy IP have faced.

Square Enix explained the decision to terminate the War Of The Visions service, citing challenges similar to those faced by FFBE: “Difficulty in maintaining a satisfactory gaming experience.” Players can continue to use any remaining Visiore (in-game currency) until the EOS date, but purchasing additional resources or items will no longer be possible.
War Of The Visions Faces “Fate” Similar to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Previously, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE) – the original version that laid the foundation for War Of The Visions – also announced its global service termination on October 30, 2024, after eight years of operation. This game was once a landmark in the mobile RPG landscape, featuring PvP gameplay, a diverse character system, and engaging narratives. However, in the end, Square Enix could not sustain the player base as interest dwindled.

Unlike War Of The Visions, the FFBE version in Japan continues to operate, causing a sense of disconnection within the international gaming community. Looking back at recent EOS announcements, it seems that Square Enix is facing increasing challenges in maintaining the appeal of the Final Fantasy series on mobile platforms. As demonstrated by the recent closure of another IP title, FF Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition on iOS, it appears that maintaining longevity in this genre is increasingly difficult.

Even with numerous events taking place until the official shutdown, the lack of offline support or any transition plans has left fans with a sense of loss. Players are left to bid farewell and continue reminiscing about their beloved Final Fantasy game experiences.
