This week, there was a notable announcement on Twitter regarding the anime “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations,” which may be returning in the coming years. Previously, there had been rumors suggesting that this anime would be on hiatus for several months. However, after nearly a year of waiting, news has emerged that the anime might not return until 2027 or 2028.
The anime “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” first aired in April 2017, following the conclusion of “Naruto Shippuden.” Since then, it has released episodes weekly, culminating in episode 293 in March 2023. To date, fans have been patiently waiting for announcements regarding the show’s return.
A source revealed: “The return of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been scheduled for 2027, or possibly even 2028. If the production team decides to change their plans, the anime might return sooner, but with lower-quality animation. Alternatively, if the concept remains unchanged, it is likely that Boruto will return with a seasonal format, becoming one of Pierrot’s largest projects in relation to this franchise.”
Recently, the director of Studio Pierrot, Kiero Itsumi, revealed in an interview that the studio is focusing on producing high-quality animated films and series rather than extending the series with “a few more episodes.” With this in mind, the director emphasized that the team is currently entirely focused on “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War,” after which they may shift to other game adaptations that could transform into seasonal anime.
The “Boruto” manga is currently being released monthly, so there won’t be sufficient source material available, meaning fans may have to wait a while longer before the anime resumes. This situation has become increasingly uncertain.
