After a long wait, Hollow Knight: Silksong has once again topped the list of the most anticipated games on Steam Wishlist.
However, the pressing question remains: Is this a sign of an enduring excitement that hasn’t waned, or merely a reflection of the passage of time?

Currently, Hollow Knight: Silksong has reclaimed the number one position on Steam Wishlist after Inzoi temporarily held the top spot for a short period. This indicates that Silksong has surpassed titles like Valve’s Deadlock and Elden Ring: Nightreign, which ranked second and third respectively.
According to data from SteamDB, Silksong not only leads in wishlist rankings but also boasts the highest number of followers, peaking at 324,040 users – a significant indicator of its popularity in the gaming community. The question remains whether this data reflects a sustained interest in Silksong or simply the cumulative effect of wishlist accumulation over time.

When the Steam page for Hollow Knight: Silksong debuted in 2019, it was still a game that players could only hope would be released “in the near future.” However, projections have now shifted to 2025, six years later, with ongoing silence from Team Cherry. Despite this, it cannot be denied that Silksong has consistently remained one of the most anticipated games over the years. In 2021, it ranked sixth in the wishlist, trailing behind titles like New World, Back 4 Blood, and Dying Light 2. As those games have been released and some have seen a drop in interest, Silksong remains, like a “persistent echo” unique to the Steam Wishlist.

Fortunately, Hollow Knight: Silksong made a surprise appearance in the recent Nintendo Direct, bringing two important updates: confirmation of a release window in 2025 and that it will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement has received very positive feedback on social media, with numerous fans expressing joy at knowing Silksong “is indeed happening.” Although Silksong has been confirmed for a release in 2025, there is still no official information regarding the exact launch date.
