Despite facing mixed reviews on its initial launch with a “Mixed” rating on Steam, the game Elden Ring: Nightreign has proven to be a powerful draw, selling 3.5 million copies just five days after its release.
Alongside its first major update that enhances player experience, Nightreign has already climbed to a “Mostly Positive” rating, marking a significant improvement for this ambitious title from FromSoftware.

Sales of 3.5 million copies are not too surprising considering the achievements this title has garnered since its release.
In just the first 24 hours, the game attracted 2 million players, simultaneously reaching over 300,000 concurrent players, according to data from SteamDB. As of now, the player count remains steady, fluctuating between 100,000 and 300,000 players daily – a remarkably persistent number for a newly launched roguelite title that offers significant challenges. Although millions of players have engaged with Nightreign, only 7.5% of them have managed to defeat all eight Nightlords – the ultimate challenge presented in the game. This statistic may surprise many, but for those who have previously experienced FromSoftware’s titles, this is entirely understandable. Even though a boss like Maris, Fathom of Night poses a formidable challenge, each of the other Nightlords is designed to be similarly difficult, testing even the most skilled players.

It is noteworthy that only about 70% of players have successfully defeated the first boss – Gladius, Beast of Night – a necessary encounter to unlock the remaining Nightlords. This underscores the challenging nature of FromSoftware’s games, where conquering bosses has never been an easy feat, and not everyone can achieve this without employing any aids or assistance.

Although the current completion rate remains relatively low, the steady growth of dedicated players over time, coupled with the significant number of players successfully overcoming all Nightlords, suggests that this trend will continue. Alternatively, FromSoftware may release an update to lower the difficulty, a strategy they have employed in the past to assist more players in enjoying the journey through Nightreign. Regardless of the direction taken, the initial success of Elden Ring: Nightreign has demonstrated the brand’s strong staying power, and it is clear that FromSoftware has maintained its commitment to creating gaming experiences that are both challenging and captivating.
