Joker is one of the most successful works of DC Films (now DC Studios) released in 2019, particularly within the superhero film genre. Under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Joker continues to be developed as part of a project titled Elseworlds, which includes all films outside the DC Universe (DCU). Recently, the official sequel to Joker, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has officially wrapped up filming after several months of production.
The announcement of the filming completion was made by director Todd Phillips via his personal Instagram account, along with an official DC post sharing an image of the main duo: Joker, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, and Harley Quinn, played by the talented singer Lady Gaga.

“The filming process is officially complete,” director Phillips wrote on his personal Instagram. “I want to thank the entire cast and crew, and the fantastic production team in the film industry. Now, I’m excited to head into post-production to edit and finalize this film.”
Joker: Folie à Deux will continue to focus on the character Arthur Fleck following the events of the first film released in 2019. With Lady Gaga’s involvement as Harley Quinn, this sequel is expected to be built in a musical style, marking a new direction in the superhero genre. Simultaneously, it will also explore the iconic love story between Joker and Harley Quinn.
After the tumultuous events of Joker, Arthur has been sent to Arkham Asylum. According to the narrative, this is where he will meet Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel. However, instead of helping Arthur with his psychological issues, Harleen inadvertently falls into a dangerous and toxic relationship with this criminal mastermind, resulting in one of the most famous couples in both DC comics and the superhero genre as a whole.

Alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz will reprise her role as Sophie Dumond. Additionally, Joker: Folie à Deux will feature contributions from several notable names including Harry Lawtey, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine Keener. This film is slated to be released on October 4, 2024.
