According to new information from Deadline, the characters Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, will not be the only X-Men characters making the leap from the 20th Century Fox film series to Disney/Marvel’s MCU when “Deadpool 3” is released in late 2024. This superhero duo will receive support from a few familiar faces, most notably from the previous “Deadpool” films.

Specifically, actors Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic are confirmed to reprise their roles as Vanessa and Colossus after appearing in the first film in 2016 and its sequel in 2018. This news is particularly exciting as Baccarin’s character, Vanessa, was a beloved figure in the first “Deadpool” film, and Kapicic’s voice performance gave life to the CGI character Colossus, who stood out in both previous “Deadpool” films. The return of these characters also suggests that the timeline of the “Deadpool” series will continue within the MCU, although we are yet to discover how this will be interpreted.
While Vanessa is a prominent character in Marvel Comics, first appearing in “X-Force #19” in 1993, she is depicted as a regular human without any special powers in the “Deadpool” films. On the other hand, Colossus is one of the most well-known X-Men characters, having debuted in 1975. In the films, Colossus is portrayed as a serious character, providing a stark contrast to Deadpool’s irreverent nature, and he is always ready to lend a helping hand when the main character is in need.

With Marvel Studios having introduced the concept of the multiverse within the MCU, we may see various characters or actors from other superhero franchises making appearances. A prime example is “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which featured Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield all reprising their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in one film. Similarly, Patrick Stewart returned as Charles Xavier in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” although this version of Xavier is different from what audiences previously saw in Fox’s films.
Regardless of the direction taken, the use of X-Men characters from Fox by Marvel Studios is a significant choice that can excite and bewilder fans alike. This move indicates Marvel’s intention to potentially reboot the X-Men franchise at some point in the future. Besides Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic, it’s still uncertain if actress Brianna Hildebrand will return as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. “Deadpool 3” may even welcome back Josh Brolin as Cable, following his portrayal of Thanos in the recent “Avengers” films, a detail that initially appeared in “Deadpool 2.”
