Marvel Studios is celebrating this Halloween with an intriguing new project filled with supernatural elements, featuring themes such as witchcraft, magic, and various scientific phenomena that are hard to explain. The highlight is the series Agatha All Along, which is considered a spin-off from WandaVision—Marvel’s first venture into the television format.
Not only does the series bring back the beloved character Agnes/Agatha Harkness, but Agatha All Along also introduces a mysterious character known only by the name Teen. From the moment he appeared, this teenage character, with his strong fascination for magic, has captivated the audience and sparked discussions about his origins, as well as his role in the series. There have been theories circulating, and it has been established that this character is indeed Billy, one of the two sons of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

To be precise, Marvel Studios has not directly confirmed the true identity of Teen. However, based on various clues, such as Agatha’s comments about her “beloved little boy,” emotional manipulation, and the visual representation of a certain character in the series, it is implied that this teenager is none other than Billy Maximoff/Billy Kaplan/Wiccan.
In the comic books, Billy Maximoff is created by Wanda from a fragment of the soul of the demon Mephisto—an infamous antagonist that was mentioned in episode 3 of Agatha All Along. When Mephisto takes back his power, Billy is forced to be erased, but he later reincarnates as Billy Kaplan, while his brother, Tommy Maximoff, becomes Tommy Shepherd. Although he has regained his complete identity linked to the Maximoff family, Billy still retains the name Billy Kaplan and embarks on his superhero journey.
Taking on the alias Wiccan, Billy becomes one of the founding members of the Young Avengers, alongside Nathaniel Richards/Iron Lad, Eli Bradley/Patriot, and Teddy Altman/Hulkling—who also happens to be Billy’s boyfriend. This group of superheroes is what Marvel Studios has been actively developing over the years, with members like Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.

Billy Maximoff’s powers were partly showcased in the series WandaVision. While his brother, Tommy, inherits super speed from their uncle Peter Maximoff, Billy shares many traits with Wanda. His abilities include reality manipulation, elemental manipulation, time travel, telepathy, healing, and flight. Billy even has the potential to perceive alternate realities within the Marvel universe.
In the latest episode of Agatha All Along, Billy also exhibited his impressive powers during intense encounters with Agatha Harkness. No longer just a side character, Billy, after revealing his identity, began to manipulate the emotions of two other characters, Jen and Lilia, to bring Agatha down to her core. Ultimately, he himself engaged in the fight to leave a significant mark on the group dynamics of the characters now known as “The Coven” following the conclusion of episode 5.

The biggest question that arises now is why Billy could survive the events in Westview during WandaVision three years ago. In the animated version, Billy and Tommy were products created by Wanda and could only exist within the “magical bubble” surrounding Westview. However, after realizing her mistake, Wanda decided to break the bubble, leading to the demise of her sons, Tommy and Billy.
This is also the main reason behind Wanda’s transformation in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she exploits the Darkhold book to try to reach another reality where her two sons truly exist. In the finale of WandaVision, Wanda unintentionally hears the calls of Tommy and Billy, suggesting that the “spirits” of her sons still exist even after the magical bubble was destroyed.
However, it is essential to note that Billy Maximoff in the Earth-616 universe (the main universe of the MCU) is still merely a product of magic and does not fully constitute a complete human being. Therefore, Billy’s appearance in Agatha All Along, although it brings about considerable excitement for fans, also raises many significant questions. There might be answers provided by Marvel Studios in the upcoming four episodes of the series. And until then, we will know what happened to the Maximoff family of four after the events that transpired in Westview.
