Recently released for streaming on Apple TV+ last weekend, “Ghosted” is a third collaboration featuring actors Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Not only is Evans known for his role as Captain America, but he also takes on a more comedic persona in this film, which departs from his previous portrayals in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In “Ghosted,” Chris Evans plays the lead character named Cole, who is depicted as an ordinary guy struggling with his feelings and unable to protect himself. In contrast, Ana de Armas plays the stunning and resourceful Sadie, who often has to step in to save Cole. The film is produced by Apple TV+ as an action-comedy, featuring a star-studded cast that streaming platforms usually strive to assemble.
Unfortunately, the film has continued the trend of similar films receiving mediocre reviews, currently holding a score of 5.8/10 on IMDb and 35/100 on Metacritic. To put it simply, the cameo roles, while entertaining, cannot overshadow the shortcomings of “Ghosted” in terms of narrative coherence, dialogue, and the chemistry between the two main characters.

At the very least, the film has managed to deliver some entertaining moments for viewers through numerous surprise guest appearances. Whether through notable cameos or the main characters’ interactions, “Ghosted” seems to prioritize humor over the story itself. In fact, the cameo appearances by Marvel actors are the most captivating elements of the film.
Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Falcon and officially the new Captain America in the MCU, appears as a character named “The Grandson of Sam.” Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan, who continues to portray the Winter Soldier, shows up as another character known as “God.” These two characters appear together in a scene lasting about five minutes as they compete to capture Cole and Sadie, leading to a thrilling encounter with another character.

Notably, “Ghosted” also features a cameo from Ryan Reynolds, who is set to join the MCU as Deadpool in 2024. In this film, Reynolds plays one of Sadie’s love interests, adding a humorous twist for the audience. Besides his own action films on Netflix, Reynolds frequently makes cameo appearances in other blockbuster movies, such as “Hobbs & Shaw” and “Bullet Train.” Evans and Reynolds seem to enjoy appearing in each other’s films, as Evans had a brief role in “Free Guy.” Therefore, it’s possible that Evans may continue this trend with a fun cameo in “Deadpool 3.”
