The official images and the first teaser trailer for the mystery thriller film “A Haunting in Venice” were unveiled at the CinemaCon 2023 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. This film marks the third installment featuring the famous detective Hercule Poirot, directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also starred in the first film, “Murder on the Orient Express,” released in 2017. Distributed by 20th Century Studios, this new film is described as a “supernatural mystery thriller” and is adapted from Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe’en Party.”
The story of “Hallowe’en Party” is somewhat different compared to Kenneth Branagh’s previous films. Specifically, “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on the Nile” were based on Agatha Christie’s most famous novels. The Halloween-themed mystery from the author is often considered one of the lesser Poirot stories. However, Branagh has expressed his willingness to take on challenges and create a unique film from this particular novel.

From what is seen in the first trailer, “A Haunting in Venice” presents a darker and more intense atmosphere compared to the previous two films. Furthermore, it employs supernatural elements to enhance the mystery and engage the audience. One notable difference is that while the previous two films were set in contemporary settings, this new film appears to have many changes. One significant alteration is that the story has been relocated from England to Italy.
In addition to Kenneth Branagh, who directs and reprises his role as Hercule Poirot, “A Haunting in Venice” features a star-studded cast including Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, and Riccardo Scamarcio. The film is set to be released in theaters starting September 15, 2023.
