Doctor Strange: A Box Office Sensation for Marvel
Doctor Strange, the latest blockbuster from Marvel, has made a spectacular debut, raking in an impressive $86 million in ticket sales across international markets (the film was released in international markets before North America).
This revenue is considered notably high, especially when compared to other superhero characters that have been rated as “mid-tier” alongside Doctor Strange, such as Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. According to estimates, the ticket sales for Doctor Strange have reached 33 different countries, exceeding Ant-Man by over 49%, Guardians of the Galaxy by 37%, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier by 23%, while being slightly ahead of Thor: The Dark World by just 1%.
The strong performance at the international box office highlights that Doctor Strange has captured the attention of a wide audience and is poised to become an important character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, standing shoulder to shoulder with Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.
For those who are not familiar, Doctor Strange tells the story of Stephen Strange, a brilliant neurosurgeon who loses the ability to perform surgery after a car accident. In his desperation, Stephen Strange exhausts all avenues for healing his hands and ultimately discovers the mystical world of magic, transforming into the Sorcerer Supreme, a protector against dark forces that threaten Earth.
The film has received high praise for its stunning visuals and the outstanding performance of lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch (as Doctor Strange) alongside Tilda Swinton (as The Ancient One).
Doctor Strange is currently being screened in all major theaters across Vietnam.
