Dragon Ball and One Piece: Top Revenue Generators for Toei Animation
As fans of both franchises debate which anime or manga is superior, Toei Animation continues to reap substantial profits from both. However, throughout the ongoing competition between these two titans over the years, one has consistently outperformed the other. In the pivotal years of 2021 and 2022, many were surprised to find that Dragon Ball surpassed One Piece, becoming the anime with the highest profits for Toei Animation, even without releasing any new episodes since 2018, while Eiichiro Oda’s series continued to release new episodes regularly.

However, by 2023 and the end of the fiscal year 2024, One Piece, buoyed by a successful live-action adaptation, has surpassed Dragon Ball, reclaiming the second position.
Moreover, the emergence of Dragon Ball Daima has brought renewed attention to the franchise. This new Dragon Ball anime is set to premiere in October 2024, and the storyline will focus on the adventures of Goku, Vegeta, and other Z fighters.
According to data released by MeriStation, Dragon Ball Daima is projected to generate approximately 123 million dollars for Toei Animation, while One Piece is expected to earn around 119 million dollars.
The Future of Dragon Ball

The future of Dragon Ball in 2025 will largely depend on the conclusion of Daima. The only remaining episode will mark the end of the series. The outcome of this series and the potential for a sequel will be crucial in determining whether Akira Toriyama’s latest work continues to captivate audiences.
For many devoted fans, the release of Dragon Ball Super 2 is highly anticipated, yet there remains uncertainty surrounding the continuation of this manga following Akira Toriyama’s recent hiatus.
