Many fans have criticized the character development of Goten and Trunks as they remain children in Dragon Ball Super. This might be one of the reasons why there haven’t been many significant appearances on screen, along with the fact that their training has been minimal. Fans have grown weary as Dragon Ball shifts focus away from the most important characters of the series, but in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Toriyama has made noteworthy adjustments.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Goten and Trunks, the two young Saiyan warriors, undergo significant changes in appearance.
Even Piccolo can’t recognize them. Gohan explains that Saiyans have a youthful appearance for a long time and only start to grow taller around the age of 15. In Dragon Ball DAIMA, Goku mentions the exact age when Saiyans begin to grow taller.
The biggest secret regarding Saiyans has finally been revealed.

The reason Goten and Trunks have remained young is that they have not yet reached the age of notable growth for Saiyans. In Dragon Ball DAIMA, Trunks is still 9 years old. Meanwhile, during the Buu saga, he was only 8. This indicates that the events of DAIMA take place roughly one year after Kid Buu’s defeat.
On Trunks’ 9th birthday, Krillin only managed to keep the secret of his age for a few years.
Later, Goku revealed important information that had fans wondering why he never mentioned it before. According to him, Saiyans typically reach significant growth around the age of 15, which aligns with Goku’s development in the original Dragon Ball series.
In Dragon Ball Chapter 1, fans witnessed young Goku at 11 years old alongside Bulma, embarking on adventures to gather the 7 Dragon Balls. However, Goku was already 15 when he defeated the Red Ribbon Army and later faced King Piccolo.
At that time, he wasn’t exceptionally tall, but his rapid growth was activated around 3 years after the King Piccolo arc. Goku traveled and trained rigorously for the World Martial Arts Tournament at age 18. Even Gohan, at age 11, was much shorter (when he battled Cell), but by the time the Great Saiyaman saga began, he had already surpassed Yamcha’s height.
However, everything has changed in Dragon Ball DAIMA, where the intervention of King Gomah and Shenron has transformed Goku, Vegeta, and others into 6-year-olds, while Goten and Trunks revert to being infants.
Fans hope to see more of Goten and Trunks in Dragon Ball DAIMA.

For many years, fans have only seen Goten and Trunks in relation to the main storyline. The only significant roles they had in Dragon Ball Super were when they were called upon to help during critical battles, such as against Android 17.
Even in the prequel section of Super Hero in the manga, Goten and Trunks went through their own Great Saiyaman saga, where they disguised themselves to battle villains. Later, Bulma discovered their situation and moped about it for a while, rendering their training process largely ineffective. They even forgot how to properly utilize Ki.
And as the story of DAIMA progresses, the creators have transformed Goten and Trunks back into infants. This means that the narrative will not include them. In the words of the creators, “Goten and Trunks will not be relevant to this storyline. Sorry!” Now, the spotlight shifts to Toyotaro, the current author of the Dragon Ball Super manga, who hopes to create a unique impact for these two brothers in the upcoming arcs.
