In Dragon Ball Super, Frieza’s Golden form was defeated by Goku. Now, we continue with a new transformation known as Black Frieza. With this new form, the power level of Frieza has become significantly stronger, surpassing that of Goku and Vegeta.
Below, we will explore some interesting facts about Black Frieza!
1. Why did Toyotaro choose a dark color for Frieza’s new form?

Earlier this January, in an interview, Toyotaro (the mangaka of Dragon Ball Super) explained his reasoning behind choosing a dark color for Frieza’s next transformation.
It turns out Toyotaro considered the significance of color, opting for black over the previous golden hue. Previously, Frieza’s most powerful form was Golden, but now it has transitioned to Black Frieza.
Toyotaro stated, “We are discussing the highest power levels. Therefore, the upper form is black. It will not operate in the same way…“
In space, could there be dark areas that are not visible? It’s difficult to explain, but the black color carries a very profound meaning.
Indeed, black is the darkest color and also one that stands out distinctly in the color spectrum. Even if mixed with many other colors, black remains unchanged. Furthermore, black often represents darkness and evil, symbolizing chaos.
2. Black Frieza’s first appearance in the colored manga
Since Black Frieza’s debut in the manga, you might wonder how he would appear in the colored pages?
Black Frieza indeed made his appearance in the colored pages of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 88, and it was quite striking.
3. First appearance in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87
Frieza’s new form first appeared in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87. When he appeared, the villain Gas was taken by surprise, leading to Gas’s defeat in a rather dramatic fashion. After that, Frieza confronted Elec. It’s important to note that when Gas transformed, he briefly turned into Black Frieza.
In the ongoing battle against the “familiar foe,” Goku and Vegeta struggled to understand how Frieza could easily defeat Gas. Frieza explained that he had spent time training and had become stronger.
Frieza also didn’t hesitate to flaunt his new Black Frieza form to Goku and Vegeta, simultaneously demonstrating his overwhelming power by defeating both of them.
4. How did Frieza achieve the Black Frieza form?

In Chapter 87, Frieza acknowledged that he underwent a time-skip training in a different dimension. In one of the places Frieza conquered, he experienced a temporal flow that differed from the outside world. Training there allowed him to condense what would have taken 10 years of training into a short period.
To put it simply, the transformation process that Frieza underwent was equivalent to 10 years of training outside. The motivation behind Frieza’s intense training stemmed from his desire not to continue losing to those two Saiyan warriors, hence he felt the need to increase his strength.
5. How powerful is Black Frieza?
In his Black Frieza form, Frieza easily defeated Gas.
It’s worth noting that before his defeat, Gas was able to tap into Vegeta’s Ultra Ego state. After experiencing an increase in strength at the end of Chapter 85, Gas was also able to fight Goku in Chapter 86 (after Goku had previously taken on the villain Bardock in Chapter 85).
Gas even managed to withstand the devastating attacks from Granolah in Chapter 86. While everyone thought Gas had been defeated, he unexpectedly resurrected at the beginning of Chapter 87. However, before Frieza, Gas was still nothing.
When Black Frieza attacked Goku and Vegeta in Chapter 87, the two Saiyan warriors quickly realized that they were outmatched. Goku utilized True Ultra Instinct while Vegeta used Ultra Ego. This is how Black Frieza continued to overpower them, showcasing his formidable strength over both Goku and Vegeta.
6. Whis did not clearly state whether Frieza is currently the strongest warrior in the universe
Previously, Oracle Fish had mentioned the strongest warriors in the universe. Therefore, Vegeta asked Whis in the last chapter 87 whether this title belonged to Frieza. Whis’s response was simply, “It could be.”
Whis also hinted that there are other powerful warriors in the universe who have yet to make their appearance.
