In the 8th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, including One Piece Chapter 1104, Eiichiro Oda commented: “I can’t believe ‘MONSTERS’, my one-shot manga, will soon be adapted into an anime! THIS IS LIFE!!!”
One-shots were published from 1992 to 1996 before the One Piece manga debuted in 1997. During One Piece Day 2023, the anime adaptation of Monsters was announced, accompanied by an introductory video, along with several official announcements regarding Gear 5 and the live-action One Piece.
What is Anime Monsters about?
Anime Monsters is a classic tale set 400 years ago, following the events when Ryuma made history. The One Piece fandom has been eagerly anticipating the story that unfolds after Ryuma slays a dragon.
In the SBS Chapter 247, Eiichiro Oda stated: “Although he appears as a ghostly figure, the character that appears in Chapter 450 is indeed Ryuma. He is the main samurai character in the short story MONSTERS. However, in the One Piece universe, he is a legendary warrior who transcends time due to his illness and has etched his name into history.”
According to Netflix, the official synopsis of Monsters reads: “The story follows a samurai who takes on a daunting task to rescue a village plagued by a rampaging dragon. He is determined to avoid any unnecessary complications, but inevitably, he finds himself facing challenges.”
