Riot Prepares to Launch the First Trading Card Game Project K
Recently, many games have mentioned the name Project K appearing on social media. However, the specific details about this game are still quite limited, and even Riot has not revealed much at this time.

Recently, during the TFT Macao Open 2024, Riot’s organizing committee announced the testing area and the first details about this game. First, it must be clarified that Project K is a trading card game (TCG) and not an online game as many fans might think. To play this game, at least two players are required, sitting opposite each other at a specialized table.
At least four card sets have been released for Project K. Each set will feature different champions, along with unique abilities and gameplay mechanics. The sets include Jinx, Volibear, Yasuo, and Viktor.

Project K Brings a New Direction for Riot
To better understand, we had a direct interview with Dave Guskin, the production director of Project K. Sharing with GameK, Dave highlighted some new and unique points:

Interviewer: Riot previously launched Legends of Runeterra; why continue to develop Project K – a different trading card game?
Dave: I am not only the production director of Project K but also had a role in the production of Legends of Runeterra. I want to emphasize that these are two entirely different games, although they both utilize card mechanics for battles.
However, Legends of Runeterra is a PvE game, which tends to focus more on individual experiences than player-versus-player combat. With Project K, we want the game to focus on direct competition, giving players the feeling of engaging in real strategic battles.

Interviewer: How many players can compete at once in Project K?
Dave: Initially, the game will have the ability to engage in 1vs1 matches. There will also be a 3-player mode with three different factions. Additionally, the game will allow 4 players in a 2vs2 format.

Interviewer: When will Project K be launched? Will it be available in multiple languages?
Dave: Currently, we are working on releasing a version for the Chinese market first, aiming for a launch in this region by the end of 2025. We are confident that an international version in English and other regions will follow. After the Chinese version, Vietnam will definitely be a region we do not want to miss.

Interviewer: What are the prerequisites for playing Project K?
Dave: I personally feel that players do not need to have too much background knowledge. If anyone has previously played strategic board games, they will find Project K easy to approach. Conversely, if you’ve never played this type of game before, you don’t need to worry as it is straightforward to learn.

Interviewer: Please share the pricing strategy for the card sets. Additionally, will Riot regularly release new card sets and expansions?
Dave: Currently, Riot is still in the development stage, so I cannot yet disclose the exact pricing for the card sets. However, we will ensure that all players can access Project K.
Regarding new card sets, they will be the upgraded versions of existing ones at the current time. We will continue to release expansions as long as there is demand from players. If there are no new sets, players can still enjoy Project K in a completely standard way.

Interviewer: Finally, please share your favorite card set before we conclude this special interview.
Dave: Personally, I really like the Yasuo card set due to its high mobility potential. Players should experience many different card sets to find their play style. Finally, thank you and I wish all the best to the GameK team!

Overall, Project K appears to be a promising trading card game that Riot is developing to bring to the gaming community. Stay tuned for more updates about this game in upcoming articles from GameK!
