Kaiju No. 8: The Disappointment Over Gen Narumi’s Anime Design

As the environment and the character of Gen Narumi from the anime Kaiju No. 8 begin to gain traction, fans have been eagerly awaiting his debut as a member of the elite Defense Force. Narumi is not only one of humanity’s strongest fighters but also possesses a strikingly handsome appearance, with chiseled features that stand out.

Gen has developed a substantial fan base over the years. Therefore, when the anime presented him on screen in episode 12, everyone hoped he would be as captivating as depicted in the manga. Unfortunately, Production IG made significant mistakes with Narumi’s character design.

Despite this, Gen Narumi remains an impactful character, yet he has been rendered as a somewhat gloomy figure with white and dark hair. The charisma in his eyes and his rugged charm have been replaced with a dull expression, lacking the vibrancy that fans have come to expect. Although the lack of vibrancy is a hallmark of this character due to his tendency to stay up late, the portrayal in the anime does not do justice to the original manga’s depiction.

Even the color of Narumi’s eyes has been altered to a dull shade instead of keeping the distinctive bright hue that made him stand out, leading fans to express their disappointment regarding the character’s design.

Reactions from fans have been overwhelmingly negative regarding Gen Narumi’s portrayal in the anime Kaiju No. 8. The initial appearance of the elite Defense Force in chapter 1 of the manga was much more exciting, particularly with his spiky hair and vibrant eyes.
