Michelle Bingley, a host from Leicester, England, is the face of the Grilling show on Standout TV. Recently, she shared her thoughts on dating with a new guest named Margs, who has made a notable impact on social media.
When Margs mentioned that she was earning between £50,000 and £60,000 (approximately $1.5 to $1.8 million) a year, Michelle responded thoughtfully: “It doesn’t have to be that much.”
Michelle elaborated: “If I were to marry a wealthy man, he would need to have a fairly high income. I want to be supported if I need it.”
Margs claimed that her monthly income of £4,000 (around $120 million) is quite modest, yet Michelle asserted that such earnings might not be sufficient for her to sustain herself, especially if she has children.
“Just think about it: if I had a child and couldn’t work, what would I live on? So, I need to find a man who earns significantly more than I do,” Michelle stated.
When Standout TV shared a clip, it sparked a heated debate on social media.
Some viewers disagreed with Michelle’s perspective, arguing that one should not expect a partner to have an income that doesn’t align with their lifestyle. “I think £4,000 a month isn’t enough for a couple struggling to make ends meet, and certainly not if you want to have children,” one commenter noted.
However, many criticized Michelle, suggesting that her income expectations were unrealistic and that she was out of touch with the financial struggles faced by many.
“Even if you earn £100,000 a year, you might only take home £5,000 a month after taxes. The cost of living today is so high; society has truly distorted the financial realities for everyone,” another comment read. “To expect someone else to support you financially shows a lack of understanding about the world.”
