Recently, Docastaway – a tourism company – has released a short trailer about the story of Ho Van Lang, a man often referred to as “Vietnamese Tarzan.” If you haven’t heard of him, Ho Van Lang spent 40 years living in the jungle, starting from the age of 2. In 2013, Ho Van Lang and his father, Ho Van Thanh, were discovered by a group of explorers. After reporting to local authorities, the father and son, who had lived in the deep jungle for 40 years, were brought back to civilization.
According to reports, the story of Ho Van Lang and his father was brought to the attention of Alvaro Cerezo, the founder of Docastaway. Immediately, Alvaro Cerezo traveled to Vietnam to meet and interview Ho Van Lang, who had survived in the jungle for over 40 years. Furthermore, Alvaro Cerezo announced that this story of Ho Van Lang would be documented and turned into a film that Docastaway plans to release the following week. In the meantime, we can take a look at the intriguing trailer above.
Ho Van Thanh, the father of Ho Van Lang, is still an ordinary person living with his family in a small village in Tra Kem hamlet, Tay Tra district, Quang Ngai province. During the Vietnam War, one day, his wife and two children were killed in a bombing, which left him traumatized and immediately led him to take his remaining two-year-old son, Ho Van Lang, into the jungle. After that, Ho Van Thanh lost all contact with anyone else. Even when he returned to a civilized life, Thanh still believed that the war had not yet ended.
It is known that the father and son survived by living 5 meters above ground to avoid wild animals, using natural materials to build their shelter, catching fish, hunting wild animals, and foraging for food and wild vegetables in the jungle. They would eat any animal they could catch, including snakes, lizards, and rats. Until one day, a group of explorers spotted the two and reported to the local authorities in 2013, after which they were removed from the jungle and returned to life with a person from Ho Van Thanh’s family, Ho Van Tri, who was still alive after the bombing.
