“Blue Beetle” is one of the most anticipated superhero films from DC, having captured the attention of fans following the recent release of its first official trailer. The film features actor Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in the series “Cobra Kai,” as Jaime Reyes, also recognized by his superhero alias, Blue Beetle.
Initially, Warner Bros. Discovery planned to release the film directly on HBO Max alongside “Batgirl,” which was ultimately canceled. However, the decision was made to release “Blue Beetle” in theaters instead. The trailer has generated positive reactions from viewers, giving fans a glimpse of the superhero’s iconic suit.

Showcased publicly at CinemaCon, the Blue Beetle suit is expected to make a remarkable appearance in the film. It is designed to be impressive and closely resembles the original comic version, prominently featuring blue and black colors. Notably, the production team has paid attention to intricate details on the arms and body, as well as the iconic scarab-like emblem on the back.
The superhero film “Blue Beetle” is directed by Angel Manuel Soto and will narrate the story of Jaime Reyes, a passionate teenager who discovers an ancient extraterrestrial artifact called the Scarab. This artifact chooses Jaime as its host, granting him incredible powers and transforming him into the superhero Blue Beetle. Similar to Green Lantern, Blue Beetle’s origins trace back to the Golden Age of comics (from 1938 to 1956), featuring various iterations over the years.

Director Soto is following the script written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The first trailer offers a brief insight into the origin story of Blue Beetle, showing Jaime’s transformation in front of his family. The trailer also introduces actress Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, a character reminiscent of a wealthy and menacing figure like Lex Luthor.
Set to hit theaters on August 18, 2023, “Blue Beetle” is expected to become a “sleeper hit” of the year.
