Gen.G May Be Facing a “Curse” of Their Own Making
Moreover, 2024 could be said to have brought a significant setback for Gen.G, as they have not only failed to break their previous record against T1 or SKT T1 from last year but also missed out on the MSI championship title. This would mark the first international title since the transformation of KSV into Gen.G last year. However, the recent losses have been a bittersweet moment and seem to reflect the current struggles of Gen.G. According to many opinions, this situation is a result of Gen.G’s “self-sabotage.”

Specifically, many League of Legends (LoL) fans remain skeptical. Prior to the EWC 2024 and after winning the MSI title, Gen.G released a poster confidently declaring themselves as World Champions (according to the EWC, which stands for Esports World Cup). However, this declaration has not only annoyed T1 fans (as T1 is currently crowned champions of the 2023 World Championship) but also the broader LoL community.

However, the unfortunate news for Gen.G is that right after announcing the poster, they were eliminated from all tournaments they participated in. They faced a crushing defeat after only one match against Top Esports. In the LCK Summer Split, Gen.G lost to HLE in the finals and subsequently in the next World Championship, they were defeated by T1, ending their impressive winning streak. Moving into the LCK Cup, Gen.G continued to struggle against HLE, losing consistently. Notably, as the 2025 LCK transitioned into a new format and despite their best efforts, Gen.G has yet to secure any new titles.

Gen.G at MSI 2025: A Major Challenge Ahead
Chovy and his teammates have secured a spot for MSI 2025 by achieving a perfect winning record in the group stage since the beginning of the Regular Season. However, MSI 2025 presents a different challenge, and Gen.G will find it difficult to maintain this unbeaten streak as they did in the previous LCK season. Currently, Gen.G has also faced “bad luck” with their key players and thus, it will be challenging to achieve success at the Vancouver event this year.
