A Major Update Approaches for Genshin Impact: The New Endgame Challenge, Stygian Onslaught, is Causing Waves of Concern Among Players
Recent leaks from the test version have revealed the daunting difficulty of today’s challenge, which may far surpass the Spiral Abyss—one of the most hardcore content types currently available in the game.

Set to Launch in Version 5.7 on June 18, 2025, Stygian Onslaught is the Latest Endgame Challenge, Featuring Three Terrifying Bosses with Combined Health Exceeding 30 Million HP, and Players Have Just 180 Seconds to Conquer Each Battle
Moreover, each boss will require a completely different team composition, meaning players must utilize 12 different characters, with each character being used only once throughout the entire challenge. According to reliable sources, the final tier of Stygian Onslaught will include three main bosses: Hydro Tulpa (13-16 million HP), Lava Dragon Statue (over 10 million HP), and Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device (13-16 million HP).

Each boss will have its own unique battle mechanics, forcing players to build appropriate teams, from skills to overall strategy. For instance, Hydro Tulpa is reportedly a significant challenge for the character Neuvillette, while it creates conditions for Freeze teams led by Escoffier to unleash maximum potential. Notably, the most valuable rewards—such as the ability to change elemental affinities—can only be obtained after clearing the final tier of the challenge. Additionally, players may receive rare materials allowing for the recreation of elemental effects, a reward that has sparked significant debate among the community. Initial assessments indicate that only a small percentage of players will be able to access these rewards due to the overwhelming DPS requirements of the challenge.

Stygian Onslaught is said to draw inspiration from the Unlimited Fighting Championship event in version 5.5—previously designed mainly for whales (players who spend a lot of money) and introducing teams at energy state 0, significantly increasing the difficulty level. With the introduction of the Imaginarium Theater—an endgame only accessible after the fact—many in the community are expressing their creativity and potential for character sharing, as many players in the Stygian Onslaught are likely to continue developing these strategies. However, if the challenge level becomes excessively punishing and the rewards too generous, HoYoverse may face backlash from the community, similar to previous updates.
