After a Long Period of “Hiding” with Mystery Game Releases, Epic Games Store Officially Returns to Familiar Free Game Format
According to the latest announcement, two upcoming free games will be released on July 3, 2025: Backpack Hero and Figment – with a total value of nearly 500,000 VND.

From May to June of This Year, Epic Games Store Maintains the “Mystery Games” Campaign – Each Week, Two Free Games Are Secretly Released Until the End of the Month, Keeping Gamers Excited About the Surprise. However, the series of events ended with the release of Two Point Hospital on June 19.
Recently, Epic officially confirmed that it will revert to the familiar free game format starting July 3 with Backpack Hero and Figment. While Figment was previously released for free once in March 2020, Backpack Hero will make its debut in Epic Games Store’s promotional program. Both games will be available for free from July 3 to July 10, 2025, ending at 8 PM on July 10 according to Vietnam time.

Developed by Jaspel, Backpack Hero is a roguelike game that combines deck-building with a unique twist: managing space in your backpack. Players not only need to select suitable items but also arrange them strategically to maximize efficiency in battles. Launched in 2023, the game currently holds an average score of 72 on OpenCritic, with 64% of reviews recommending it, and has garnered over 6,800 “Very Positive” ratings on Steam – an impressive achievement for an indie title.

Figment, developed by Bedtime Digital Games, is an action-adventure game with a musical theme, set in a surreal world reflecting the human psyche. Players take on the role of Dusty – the voice of consciousness navigating through the mind, alongside their optimistic companion Piper, confronting the fears and doubts that lie within. The game combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat elements, with hand-drawn visuals and a dynamic soundtrack that evolves as players progress through the story. As of mid-2025, Figment boasts over 1,200 “Very Positive” reviews on Steam and ranks in the top 25% of games with the highest scores on OpenCritic, showcasing its exceptional quality and engaging content.
