Actor Hugh Mitchell, who played the role of Colin Creevey in the Harry Potter series, was an avid fan of photography and a devoted supporter of the Harry Potter franchise. He recently shared his thoughts, expressing that author J.K. Rowling doesn’t necessarily have to kill off characters that he has portrayed in the series, specifically referring to his character’s death in the second installment, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The character Colin Creevey only appeared in the 2002 film and was tragically killed by the Death Eaters. In the Harry Potter series, many other characters also meet their demise, and according to Hugh Mitchell, it would have been fair for the author to allow some characters to survive with slight changes to the storyline.
Entertainment Weekly conducted an interview with Hugh Mitchell, where the young actor shared:
“There are so many ideas that I think J.K. Rowling could use to create different endings, but it seems like she leans towards the idea of ‘Oh, let’s kill off this character.’ I think just because I played the character Colin, his death shouldn’t be so arbitrary, especially since he is a character that dared to take photos at Hogwarts or even wandered around the castle by himself in dangerous situations. A character like that doesn’t deserve to die in such a careless manner.”
The story of young Harry Potter, crafted by J.K. Rowling, has indeed captured the hearts of many, but it is difficult to encompass all perspectives. What do you think? Would you enjoy a version of Harry Potter where none of the characters die as Hugh Mitchell suggested?
