Solo Leveling is a popular webtoon created by Chugong that will be adapted into an anime at the beginning of 2024. The story focuses on the character Sung Jin-Woo, who initially is regarded as the weakest E-rank hunter.
As a background, Solo Leveling is a game series from scratch to hero, where the main character is introduced as a weak character but eventually transforms into a very powerful warrior. However, compared to characters in the same genre, Jin-Woo can be said to be the fastest-growing character.
The first part of the anime already highlights Jin-Woo’s significant development, starting from chapter 3 when he first undertakes a mission to the System of Ants in the abyss.
Jin-Woo even has the potential to defeat the A-rank monster Cerberus, the first boss in the Tower of the Abyss, which Jin-Woo must conquer when he first steps into the abyss in chapter 7.
Not long after, at the end of part 1, Jin-Woo received a mission called Change Job and defeated the boss of the abyss – Igris, while also gaining the ability to extract shadows, allowing him to summon the shadows of fallen enemies as his soldiers.
What do you think Sung Jin-Woo will be strong enough to achieve in Solo Leveling season 2?
1. At the beginning of season 2, Jin-Woo’s strength has surpassed E-rank hunters, potentially equivalent to A-rank.
The actions of Sung Jin-Woo throughout Solo Leveling season 1 completely transformed Jin-Woo’s power. Initially, Jin-Woo was much weaker than the lower-tier monsters like the weaklings, but he could withstand the A-rank monsters and even defeat them.
The second season of Solo Leveling opens with the Red Gate arc. Jin-Woo has requested the permission of Hunter Ahn Sangmin to allow him and Song-yi to participate in a mission in the C-rank abyss, where is considered a training ground for new hunters.
Jin-Woo’s purpose in participating is solely for Song-yi to see the dangers of the hunter profession; however, he has found himself caught in a difficult situation after the gate transformed into a C-rank.
Ultimately, Jin-Woo had to utilize his actual strength to escape the abyss.
At the C-rank abyss, Jin-Woo fought against the A-rank monster Baruka, an elite monster. Jin-Woo could not fight alone against the A-level monsters, so he summoned Igris and created a new shadow soldier, who could be Iron to assist him.
Thus, Jin-Woo’s strength at the beginning of the season has not yet reached S-rank, but it is close to A-rank. Jin-Woo is also not as strong as Igris according to his own acknowledgment, so he let Igris fight against the leader of the bear group in the abyss.
Moreover, Jin-Woo realized that there is a possibility he will not be able to defeat Igris in the Change Job mission if he relies solely on his sword skills.
2. How strong is Sung Jin-Woo in Solo Leveling season 2?
At the beginning of the second season, Jin-Woo is confirmed to be at the lowest A-rank among all hunters. However, his rank has certainly increased significantly after the battle at the C-rank abyss.
Furthermore, he also has additional strength beyond his individual power, including shadow soldiers from the bear group and A-rank hunters like Kim Chul, who becomes a new shadow soldier named Iron. It is quite unfortunate that Jin-Woo did not receive Baruka’s acknowledgment as an S-rank.
After the C-rank abyss, the story will continue with the Tower of the Abyss. Jin-Woo will enter the Tower of the Abyss to ascend to higher floors in order to collect all necessary materials to create the Essence of Life. This is a type of medicine that is effective in healing Jin-Woo’s injuries.
Importantly, Jin-Woo will become even stronger when he steps into the abyss and completes missions. After completing the Tower of the Abyss section, Jin-Woo will check his rank again.
From there, it is revealed that Jin-Woo’s strength is equivalent to S-rank, making him one of the strongest hunters in South Korea.
The higher rank of Jin-Woo goes hand in hand with the acquisition of a variety of important items that help increase his power. This includes skills and abilities that are unique to him, allowing him to appear as a formidable warrior.
