Dragon Ball Super: A New Focus on Trunks and Goten
Dragon Ball Super is currently gaining attention, sparking discussions among fans. While the anime is on hiatus, its manga counterpart is thriving, with recent chapters focusing on a new heroic transformation for the characters. This development has been exciting for fans, especially with the spotlight on Trunks and Goten.
Trunks and Goten are set to showcase their unique abilities as they transition from childhood to adolescence. Recently, the upcoming storyline in Dragon Ball Super has detailed how creator Akira Toriyama envisions the two Saiyan heroes.
This information was revealed through V Jump magazine, which featured an interview with Toyotaro, the manga’s illustrator. In the interview, it was mentioned that Toriyama is pleased to provide Trunks and Goten with a narrative arc, building on the story from the Super Hero manga. While Toyotaro was quick to accept the offer, Toriyama had specific requests for their character development.

According to Toyotaro, the author aims to clearly delineate the distinction between Trunks from the main timeline and Future Trunks. Both characters are essential to the Dragon Ball narrative, yet Toyotaro admits he faces challenges in distinguishing between them.
Ultimately, both characters are fundamentally the same person, despite the differences in their timelines. Therefore, as Teen Trunks matures into adolescence, Toriyama has requested that he transition into a heroic figure.

In the process of becoming a hero, much like the Great Saiyaman (Son Gohan’s alter ego to hide his identity while attending school), Trunks will create a distinct identity compared to Future Trunks.
Future Trunks faced significant hardships during his upbringing, burdened by the dark elements of his world. Future Trunks continues to grapple with his past traumas, but when discussing the main films, Young Trunks represents a different perspective. His outlook on heroism has driven him to value the concept of heroism more than anything else. Therefore, according to Toriyama, both versions of Trunks seek to find their purpose in life.
