As we know, the main character Luffy in One Piece has long been revealed to be the son of the revolutionary leader Monkey D. Dragon. Meanwhile, in another arc of the manga, Ace, Luffy’s brother, is revealed to be the biological son of Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, whose reign caused significant turmoil for the world government.
However, according to some new theories proposed by fans of One Piece, it is possible that Luffy is actually the biological son of Gol D. Roger, while Ace is the son of Dragon.
Why can’t Luffy be the son of Gol D. Roger?
Many fans of One Piece previously believed that Luffy is indeed the son of Pirate King Roger. This is because the character’s demeanor, appearance, and overall vibe resemble that of Roger too much. But is it really possible for Luffy, who was born 5 years after Gol D. Roger was executed, to be his son? Furthermore, in the world of One Piece, there exists technology for preservation, tracking… the whereabouts of the Pirate King during the 5 years before his death. (It is certainly impossible for him to disappear completely).
So what if this situation arises, if we consider Gol D. Roger’s great power to be the ability to… travel through time, either to the future or back to the past.
Have you ever thought about what abilities Gol D. Roger possesses? The mystery surrounding the strength of Pirate King Roger is rarely mentioned; we mostly only hear tales about him from his contemporaries, as he rarely reveals himself.
If Gol D. Roger indeed possesses the ability to travel through time, visiting the past or even the future… then every detail regarding him being Luffy’s father, from when he died to why Gol D. Roger appeared in the past, can be explained very clearly.
Having the ability to travel through time, Roger witnessed every significant event in world history, everything he wanted to know. Thus, he felt compelled to return to the moment before Luffy was born.
With this time-traveling ability, Gol D. Roger could foresee the future… alongside Luffy’s birth, leading to this little brat continuing to travel across other timelines. And when he reached maturity, he would witness the entirety of world history from its inception to the very days leading up to the future, Roger felt that he had discovered everything, so he decided to return to the moment five years before Luffy was born, in order to confront the world government to accept his death. This also explains why Gol D. Roger has a better understanding of world history than anyone else, fluent in many ancient languages, and knows about events that occurred over 100 years ago in world history.
The ability of Roger to possibly travel through time is illustrated in the short manga segment where the kid Momonosuke claims that he met Roger. Everyone considers this to be a mere child’s tale, given that Momonosuke was only 5 years old, how could he have met the Pirate King who had died 20 years ago?
The cat Nekomamushi suggests that the adventures of the great lord Oden, Momonosuke’s father, are quite complex and have many peculiar details. The implication here is that what Momonosuke said is entirely valid. The kid could have met the Pirate King Roger even if he had died 20 years ago, and thus Roger could have time-traveled to meet a kid just 5 years after his death, what then would that mean?
One of the reasons that also makes many fans excited about this theory is the connection among the four characters: Luffy, Ace, Dragon, and Roger. Just a quick glance shows us many striking similarities in the appearances of Luffy and Roger. While Ace has many similarities with Dragon, from facial features to even their general demeanor.
It is undeniable that Ace bears many traits of Dragon, while Luffy resembles Gol D. Roger more closely.
So why does the author choose to reveal that Ace is the son of Gol D. Roger? This can be explained by the fact that those around wanted to protect Luffy, so from a young age, they kept Luffy’s true identity as the son of Pirate King Gol D. Roger a secret. The change in identity when making Luffy the son of Dragon just serves to protect this kid because everyone knows that the world government would certainly not let the bloodline of the Pirate King go unpunished.
All these secrets could be revealed at the last minute when Luffy’s group finally reaches the final island and this will be the biggest secret in history, the culmination of what the author Eiichiro Oda has hinted at.
