A new anime series titled Dragon Ball Daima was announced at New York Comic-Con. Dragon Ball Daima is set to premiere in 2024, although an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

The creator, Akira Toriyama, is taking on an important role in this project, overseeing the entire storyline and character design. Akio Iyoku, the producer overseeing the project, noted that Toriyama is “more involved than usual.”
The introduction to the new series revealed many intriguing details. Among them is a focus on the past adventures of Goku.
What does Daima mean and what is the story in the new series?
The term “Daima” in Dragon Ball Daima might confuse some, but Akira Toriyama clarified during the Comic-Con panel that it is akin to the word “demon” in English.

Toriyama’s comments provide a glimpse into the storyline of the new series. Due to an unclear background, Goku and his friends will be transformed into children.
To counter this situation, they will have to navigate a new world filled with captivating adventures. Goku will now wield the Power Pole, as seen in previous battles.
Differences between Dragon Ball Daima and GT
For those familiar with the Dragon Ball GT series, which aired in 1996, the premise of Daima might sound familiar. GT began with Goku being transformed into a child by Ultimate Shenron, placing him, Pan, and Trunks on a mission to gather the Dragon Balls scattered across the galaxy.
However, Dragon Ball Daima takes a different turn by transforming the main characters into children. This opens up numerous possibilities for new story arcs and interactions between characters that we have not seen before.

Another significant difference is the appearance of the Power Pole in Daima.
While GT focused heavily on the quest for the Dragon Balls, Daima seems to bring back some elements from the original Dragon Ball series. The reintroduction of the Power Pole will likely add a nostalgic touch for long-time fans.
The key distinction lies in the involvement of Akira Toriyama in the production. While GT was largely developed without his direct input, Toriyama is taking the lead in Daima, ensuring that it aligns more closely with his vision for the Dragon Ball universe.
So, is Dragon Ball Daima a direct sequel to Dragon Ball GT? The answer is no. Both series exist in separate timelines and have distinct overarching narratives.
