On March 23, Disney officially released a new teaser for the film Descendants: The Rise of Red. This is an offshoot of the popular Disney franchise centered around the children of iconic characters, and Descendants: The Rise of Red is currently trending on social media as it introduces the character of the new princess, Lemm.

In this installment, the princess Lemm will be portrayed by singer and actress Brandy. At 44 years old, Brandy reprises her role as Lemm, a character that she originally played 25 years ago in a modern adaptation created in 1997. Not only has there been a change in skin tone, but even Lemm’s hair color has shifted from blonde to blue, as opposed to the previous animated version.

With a different design from the classic animated version of Disney, audiences are once again stirred into a debate. Many comments express a sense of distance and disappointment over such a drastic change to a beloved character, akin to previous transformations of characters like Ariel or Snow White. Conversely, some netizens point out that Disney is merely reviving the character of Lemm from 25 years ago, which is intended to be a supporting role in this new film Descendants.
Audience Reactions:
– Why is Lemm a character that has changed skin color? What is Disney thinking?
– Disney is raising eyebrows.
– Lemm looks too old and unconvincing.
– Descendants has made creative changes to characters for a long time, so nothing is surprising. This character is also Brandy’s older role, so it makes sense.
– Just looking at the image makes me want to see it, although the age of the character is still a concern.

As for Lemm’s age, in Descendants: The Rise of Red, she has two children and is now a queen alongside King Charming. Thus, the choice of a 50-year-old actress to play Lemm is not surprising. Additionally, actor Paolo Montalban, who originally played opposite Brandy in the 1997 film, will also reprise his role as Charming.

This new installment of Descendants revolves around one of Lemm’s two children, specifically her daughter Chloe. Chloe will join forces with Red, the daughter of the Evil Queen (played by Rita Ora) from the Alice in Wonderland franchise. Both characters will receive a magical item from the Fairy Godmother and embark on a perilous journey to save their kingdom. The film is set to premiere on Disney+.
