Gege Akutami’s Thoughts on Gojo and Nanami
A popular Twitter user recently shared an artwork by Gege Akutami following Satoru Gojo’s victory in the character popularity poll at Jump Festa 2019. Along with the artwork, Gege Akutami also gave advice to fans: “Those who have voted for Gojo, especially the female fans. Below is a friendly advice. Choose Nanami.”
It seems that Nanami is Gege’s favorite character, as he revealed in an interview back in 2022: “Initially, I liked Sukuna the most. The reason is that the scene of his domain expansion inspired me when I first read it. Nanami is the first character I created and developed by myself. Therefore, he is my favorite character at this moment.”
Regarding Gojo, despite being a prominent figure, the Jujutsu Kaisen creator has not shied away from criticism. After the huge success of the “Premature Death” arc, Gege shared a special appreciation for animation studios, acknowledging their hard work. In a brief statement, Gege commented on Gojo: “The characters in the dark tone all have high-definition animation.”

In essence, Gojo is indeed a crucial character in the overall narrative, so labeling him as merely a dark character is not entirely accurate. However, it is not the first time Gege has expressed disdain for Gojo.
Gege Akutami once shared in January 2020 that: “Now that Gojo is no longer here, I feel that 2020 will be a very good year.” This remark was made while the creator was feeling quite distressed after witnessing Gojo being sealed during the Shibuya Incident.
Now, the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom is once again buzzing following Gege Akutami’s comments about Gojo. One user noted: “The first person to hate Gojo is the one who created him…” while another remarked: “This person seems to hate Gojo for no reason whatsoever.”
