As a pivotal character in Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi is the first sorcerer that Yuji encounters. It is during their meeting that Yuji discovers Megumi’s connection to Sukuna’s cursed fingers, ultimately leading to Megumi becoming the vessel for the King of Curses.
Throughout the storyline, Megumi plays a significant role. He has faced numerous formidable opponents and has been revealed to have potential comparable to Gojo, along with his own unique Shikigami techniques. Additionally, Megumi has drawn Sukuna’s distinct interest for a mysterious reason.
This reason is unveiled during the Culling Game arc when Sukuna takes over Megumi’s body. The evil spirit has been in control of the young sorcerer for quite some time until Megumi finally manages to escape at the end of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, followed by Sukuna’s demise.
Megumi Returns in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268
In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268, Megumi escapes from Sukuna when Yuji’s spirit attack weakens the barrier between Megumi’s spirit and Sukuna.

Megumi’s escape from Sukuna’s grasp has been anticipated for a long time. The main conflict following the Shinjuku Showdown arc revolves around Sukuna’s resurgence, but characters like Yuji and Yuta have been working tirelessly to rescue Megumi, despite facing their own challenges.
The first instance of this confrontation occurs in Chapter 251 when Hana uses Jacob’s Ladder and Yuji employs his spirit attack against Sukuna simultaneously. Despite the pressures they face, Megumi is too fatigued to accept help and pleads with Yuji to stop.
However, Yuji’s relentless spirit ultimately reaches Megumi during Chapter 266, when Yuji expresses his understanding of Megumi’s despair, prompting Yuji to declare: “…If there’s no other way, I’ll come for you, Fushiguro.”
Right after that, Sukuna’s shadow envelops Megumi, forcing him down. Megumi is currently aiding Yuji in his fight against Sukuna. It is Yuji’s words that reignite Megumi’s will to live and fight back.
When Nobara uses Resonance on Sukuna’s last finger, allowing Yuji to land a decisive blow on the King of Curses, the barrier between Megumi’s spirit and Sukuna is shattered, ultimately freeing the young sorcerer.
How Long Was Megumi Under Sukuna’s Control in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Megumi was under Sukuna’s control for 56 chapters, lasting over a year within the storyline.

From the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna has shown a keen interest in Megumi. He has attempted to seize control of Megumi several times and has expressed fascination when Megumi performs anything out of the ordinary, such as when he opens a domain expansion.
The reason for Sukuna’s interest becomes apparent during the Culling Game arc. In Chapter 212, Megumi’s brilliance is highlighted as he confronts Yorozu, who has taken control of Tsumiki’s body. Sukuna exploits Megumi’s weakened mental state and uses this to manipulate Yuji.
With the ability to control Yuji for just a moment, Sukuna forces Megumi into a tight grip, then shifts into Megumi’s body. Initially, Megumi resists, but he is simply too weak compared to Sukuna.
However, Sukuna does not hesitate, as he ruthlessly imposes his will on Megumi’s spirit by merging Yorozu (who is currently possessing Tsumiki – Megumi’s sister) with Mahoraga’s slashing attack – a powerful shikigami technique of Megumi. This act parallels Megumi’s own struggle against his sister’s fate.
What Happens Next?
Now that Megumi has been freed and Sukuna is dead, Megumi’s future appears significantly brighter. Currently, he is recovering from his experiences (both mentally and physically), while also dedicating time to his friends.
In the future, Megumi is expected to continue as a jujutsu sorcerer. Despite the numerous trials he has faced, Megumi still possesses immense potential. Ultimately, he will strive to expand his domain and learn to harness the Black Flash technique.
However, one thing is certain: Megumi can no longer compare or compete with Gojo, as his Shikigami techniques have diminished, leaving behind only the strongest shikigami. Because of the loss of Mahoraga and many of Megumi’s powerful shikigami, he will not become the strongest version of himself.
