The creator, Gege Akutami, has previously mentioned that the inspiration for the hand-to-hand combat between Yuji and Choso came from The Raid 2. He elaborated on this in his article featured in the Jujutsu Kaisen Fanbook.
“The fight between Yuji and Choso during the Shibuya Incident was inspired by this. The sensation in the manga fight reminds me of The Raid Gokudo (released in 2014).”
Here, Gokudo is the Japanese title for The Raid 2, which was released in Japan.
During his time in school, Gege Akutami was really influenced by a film that became very popular at that time, which is The Raid. This film is an Indonesian martial arts action movie with a modest budget. The Raid does not rely on flashy CGI; instead, the authentic fight scenes are the hallmark of the film.
While watching the film, Akutami began to take interest in the martial arts techniques utilized by the characters, particularly the Pencak Silat. According to him, the combat techniques of Pencak Silat are truly impressive when depicted in action scenes.
The author not only focused on The Raid during his studies but also wanted to incorporate the fight scenes of Pencak Silat into his work after observing how Tatsuki Fujimoto integrated similar content into his manga Chainsaw Man. You can find references to the Silat fight in chapter 62, specifically during the battle between Quanxi and Yoshida.
The fight between Yuji and Choso during the Shibuya Incident drew significant inspiration from The Raid 2, particularly the hand-to-hand combat scene between Rama and The Assassin in the kitchen. In the manga version of Jujutsu Kaisen, you can find this fight depicted from chapters 101 to 105. Currently, this scene has been adapted into the anime version in the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, which is episode 13.
